A) Through an array of images meant to represent common American life, in order to expose or bring to light the variety of moral and social issues facing my generation. Accompanied by a narration linking the images and overall theme of the video. There will be an emphasis on showing people amongst the chaos and disorder of the city, and the constant reminders of authority provided by the endless sequence of police cars and helicopters. I will interview random people, likely any homeless around. Questions will be formulated to allow an array of different “types” of people to list the 5 most prominent issues of our time. Then make some sort of comment on the data collected either praising of condemning the people and their opinions depending on the outcome of the numbers. I believe Columbus is a hub of disease insanity, outside the campus, and I also believe it is very typical of any major city in America, Consumed by drugs, corruption, and greed. But my emphasis will also be on the hope provided the people who live in these places.
B) A video about skating and the lifestyle of shredding. Interviews with skateboards at skate parks talking about experiences and overall why the skate. Plenty of shot of skateboarders doing tricks cut in with interview footage of people explaining what it means to them to skate and be a skateboarder. I will try to touch on the untouchable, the quiet allure of living to skate, surrendering ones life to the endless search of higher jumps, bigger risks, and harder tricks.

Either project would be viable for this class. Judging by your description, pitch B seems the more feasible one, though because it is much more focused in subject matter. The doomsday rhetoric of your first pitch still seems amorphous to me. I am not sure what you mean by “types.” Are you referring to stereotypes? Do you have a preconceived schema of personality or socio-economic types that you wish to survey? I am also curious to know why you are dividing your subject matter along the binary of inside/outside campus. Are you saying that OSU is not as susceptible to disease and insanity as those areas outside campus?
Going forward with either project, please remember to obtain permissions and releases from your interview subjects. You can find the form on Carmen.
